Outdoor Autumn Adventures

With shades of red, orange and yellow leaves painting our already amazing landscape, autumn in the Gorge is an unforgettable experience! Combine the vibrant foliage with endless opportunities for outdoor adventure, and you’ve got a fall family getaway that’s one-of-a-kind.

Climb to new heights and take in the impressive view from above when you scale our sandstone cliffs. Explore miles of winding trails during a scenic hike or mountain bike excursion. Long Point Trail, one of our favorite routes, offers an incredible angle of the New River Gorge Bridge, and the Arrowhead system’s diverse terrain is perfect for riders of all ages. Saddle up for a horseback ride through the forests or take a drive along Midland Trail to discover rushing waterfalls, amazing overlooks and other local gems.

And if you’re looking to add a little bit of spookiness to your trip, the Gorge has plenty to get you in the spirit. Explore the ghost towns of Thurmond, Kaymoor or Nuttallburg for some haunted history. Or book a stay at the Glen Ferris Inn to try to catch a glimpse of “The Colonel,” a friendly, bearded poltergeist said to walk the halls.
