Oak Leaf Festival celebrates the arrival of fall

The city of Oak Hill will celebrate the arrival of fall with the 20th annual Oak Leaf Festival. The festival runs through the first weekend of September and will host a wide range of activities for families to enjoy.
Friday, August 31
Start your weekend with the Sweet Taste of Fayette County baking contest at the Lewis House in Oak Hill. Bakers from across the county will enter their favorite homemade dessert for a chance to take home a first place $100 prize!
Later, visitors can enjoy vendors and Hillbilly Inflatables in the Oak Hill city parking lot and a wine tasting at Cafe One Ten. If you need a little action during all the festivities, catch the football game at Oak Hill High School, where the Red Devils will take on the Liberty High School Raiders at 7 p.m. Finish off the evening with a performance from the Beach Night Band and the Parade of Lights down Main Street.
Saturday, September 1
Start Saturday by getting active! Tee off at the Oak Leaf Festival Disc Golf Tournament at Collins Park or test your running endurance at the 5k Run/Walk at Active Fitness. Both events begin at 9 a.m.
Bring the little ones to watch the Oak Leaf Parade at 10 a.m., and stick around for the Lip Sync contest at the Lively Family Amphitheater at 12:30 p.m.
The day will be capped off for adults and kids alike with a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournament on Main Street and a performance by LCB (Leonard, Coleman and Blunt) at the amphitheater. LCB features the former lead singers of the Platters, the Drifters and the Temptations. Both events start at 8 p.m.
Sunday, September 2
Festivities begin with Sam Calloway and the Spirit and Truth Ministries at 11 a.m at the amphitheater. Everyone is then invited to an open reception at the Lewis House following the service.
The amphitheater will play host to several events throughout Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m., the annual car show begins along with a performance by the Esquires.
Later, at 5:30 p.m., there will be a concert by Hit and Run in conjunction with the chili cook-off. Come and taste the various recipes; and find out which competitors bring the heat.
And shortly after sunset, there will be a fireworks show to conclude the 2018 festivities at Oak Hill High School.
