Sometimes, during a vacation, the weather just doesn’t cooperate. But, when you are staying in the New River Gorge there are still plenty of other adventures to get into indoors.

Life is busy for all of us and vacation is one of the only chances to spend quality time with the people you love. Indoor family activities allow for quality time to be had and lasting memories to be made. Grab a deck of cards or your favorite board games and start your winter day off right with some friendly competition! Most of our cabins and lodging options in the area have great accommodations, so take advantage of them too. Indulge in a homecooked meal, get cozy while watching a good movie or fight off the cold weather in your cabin’s hot tub. Aren’t much of a chef? Or starting to get cabin fever? Head into town and enjoy a delicious local meal at one of our many restaurants. 

 

Looking for Indoor Adventures?

The adventure activities in the NRG aren’t just for the outdoors. Test your family’s team skills while trying to escape a locked room adventure at Epic Escape Game in Fayetteville. For a less intense activity, spend your afternoon bowling at Pinheads, or go later for a fun night of Family Cosmic bowling. 

 

Looking for Relaxation?

If you are looking to relax, the NRG has a few options for that. Enjoy a live production at the Historic Fayette Theater located centrally in Fayetteville. Indulge in some self-care with a massage from Ocean’s Massage Therapy or Canyon Massage & Bodywork, or practice meditation and relaxation at New River Yoga. 

 

Lastly, you don’t want to return home without a souvenir to remember your time here. Check out unique shops in the Gorge.

 

If you still have time and want to experience more indoor excitements, travel to the neighboring town of Beckley (30 minutes away) to experience West Virginia’s vast cultural center, Tamarack. While you are in Beckley put your adventurous spirit to the test and try indoor climbing at Outside In Climbing Gym. 

While a popular destination in the summer months, the NRG is still a great escape from your hectic life in the winter. Bad weather doesn’t stop the good memories from forming. There are plenty of options for indoor family fun while staying in the NRG!
