5 Ways to Celebrate the Holidays in the New River Gorge

If you’re bringing family to town, or taking a getaway to spark your seasonal spirit, the New River Gorge has plenty of holiday cheer to enjoy.
Here are 5 ways to celebrate the holidays in the New River Gorge, WV:

NRG Bridge in winter1. BridgeWalk

The winter views of the New River Gorge are spectacular, but the best is from the underbelly of the New River Gorge Bridge. You can stroll across this architectural icon, and peer out over the swirling New River 876 feet below. And an extra gift for the season: it’s only $39 per person Dec. 21 to Jan. 4.

2. Hawk’s Nest Lights

A cherished tradition, Hawk’s Nest State Park illuminates the wilderness with unique seasonal displays. You can drive along the Midland Trail and see the displays from the road. The route is also a wonderful route to see scenic, natural wonders during the day. We recommend timing an afternoon journey along the Trail to end at Hawk’s Nest around dusk.

3. New River Symphony Youth Chorus

Passionate young musicians and vocalists will be showcasing their skill at the Historic Fayette Theater. These vibrant youngsters are professionals at the start of their musical journey, and their passion pours out through their powerful performances. Enjoy seasonal classics from up-and-coming talent in West Virginia, while also supporting the program to inspire more young artists.

4. Daniel Vineyards Open House

Pair your cheer with a “cheers” at Daniel Vineyards’ holiday Open House. Sip velvety mulled port and rich blackberry wines, with a side of blackberry wine cake. Bottles will also be discounted at the event, so you can take some home for gifting, or your pantry.

5.  “The Nutcracker” at Tamarack.

Tamarack brings together West Virginia’s top artisans in one place, making it a wonderful holiday shopping destination, where you can find hundreds of one-of-a-kind gifts. Plan your trip around their holiday event, The Beckley Dance Theater’s performance of “The Nutcracker,” and spend the morning shopping around before you enjoy the show.
While you’re here, be sure to enjoy some of the regular winter fun, hitting the ski slopes or taking a snowy forest zipline tour.
