Halloween Happenings in the New River Gorge

Spooky season is upon us and with it comes a whole lineup of Halloween-themed fun! From family-friendly frights to late-night monster bashes, there’s something for everyone this month in the New River Gorge. 

Oak Hill’s Annual Halloween Festival – Mayhem on Main 

Don’t miss Oak Hill’s Annual Halloween Festival — Mayhem on Main — from October 22 to October 31. Drop-off for the pumpkin carving contest is on Thursday, October 27 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This contest is free to enter and unlimited pumpkin submissions will be accepted. Following this day of the festival, pumpkins will be lit each night until Halloween night. The winner categories include, carved pumpkins (adult and child), painted pumpkins (child) and a new category, most creative (everyone). Winners will be announced on Friday, October 28. 

The festival concludes with the Trick or Treat Candy Booths on Main Street on October 29 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Find more information about Oak Hill’s Annual Halloween Festival on Facebook. 

Nightmare in the Hills 

Introducing the newest bone-chilling attraction in the Gorge — Nightmare in the Hills! This haunted trail at the Summit Bechtel Reserve will surely be your newest nightmare. The trail follows the “The Massacre at Sullivan Farm” where the bloodlust haunts the grounds to this today. The attraction is open Fridays and Saturdays in October from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. It is recommended for guests 13 years and older. Purchase your tickets online now. 

TimberTrek Halloween SpookTrekular

Experience supernatural thrills at TimberTrek Halloween SpookTrekular at Adventures on the Gorge. The TimberTrek course will be decked out for Halloween on October 28 to October 30 with a spooky version of the “MoonTrek” course. This event is perfect for little ones, big kids and even adults! Get your tickets before they sell out.

ACE Adventure Resort: Monster Bash Halloween Party

Celebrate Halloween with a nightmarish party at ACE Adventure Resort’s Monster Bash Party on October 29. There will be special appearances from haunted house monsters, tarot card readings and themed cocktails. Additionally, there will be a cash prize for the person with the best costume! Witches and Warlocks Stand-Up Paddle 

Gather at Fayette Station for a Witches and Warlocks Stand-Up Paddle on October 30 at 9 a.m. This is a leisure paddle, but the current of the New River can be challenging for beginners so it is not a first-time paddler event. You must pre-register to attend.
