First incorporated on February 25, 1903, Oak Hill, though not the county seat, is the largest city in Fayette County.The City got its name because of its location under a spreading white oak tree at nearby Hilltop and the fact that it was located on a hill. It is a Class III city with an approximate population of 8,338.  Municipal Election is held every four years on the second Tuesday in June with elected officials taking office on July first.  The next municipal election for the City of Oak Hill will be held June 2019. August begins the festivities in Oak Hill with the annual Railroad Festival / Depot Days. This is followed by the fall festivities beginning the week before Labor Day as Main Street puts on its finery to celebrate the Oak Leaf Festival and Parade, with merchants dressing their storefronts in Fall finery and fodder shocks and bows lining the street.   Be sure to visit the Oak Leaf website at http://oakleaffestivalwv.org/ to see the whole listing of activities planned for the citizens and visitors of Oak Hill during our Oak Leaf Festival.
