Celebrate July 4 in the New River Gorge
June 26, 2013The confetti just settled from our West Virginia birthday celebration, and we’re already hanging more streamers to celebrate the USA’s birthday.
July 4 is around the corner, and the New River Gorge will be celebrating Thursday through the entire weekend.
Thursday, July 4
During Independence Day, the Fayetteville Lions Club will kick off the party with a parade in Downtown Fayetteville at 11 a.m.
Once the bands, floats and dancers pass through, the streets will be filled with regalia, including contests like a Three-legged race, sack race, hula hooping contest, frog jumping race, watermelon seed spitting contest and water balloon toss.
The fun will fade into a sock hop, which will rock ‘n’ roll till the fireworks show at 9 p.m.
Or, you could opt to spend your day on a great American adventure. Adventures on the Gorge has $79 rafting and ziplining, and Ace Adventures is offering buy one, get one half off rafting.
Friday, July 5
The next day, the excitement continues with a carnival at Adventures on the Gorge. There will be a DJ, bouncy houses, yard games, contests and more, and the pool will be free and open to the public.
Saturday, July 6
Saturday, we’re doubling up the celebrations, also tipping our obnoxiously bright party hats to the Historic Fayette Theater on its 20th Anniversary. The John Kemper Band will perform at the theater during the celebration.
Ace Adventures will also host a blob competition. Which is simpler and less messy than it sounds. Their “blob” is a launch bag, and Ace will be giving out prizes for the most outrageous leaps throughout the day.
How are you celebrating the Fourth of July?
