West Virginia’s largest single day festival is upon us. We want to make sure you are ready to make the most of Bridge Day 2012. So, we’ve compiled a list of things you’ll want to know to plan your day on the Bridge. Read on. The Essentials Bridge Day is a wonderful event in and of itself, but there are a few things you can do to ensure you make the most of your day.
- Bring Cash – Many vendors do not have the capability to accept credit or debit cards on the Bridge, so having plenty of cash will ensure you don’t miss that great souvenir or super snack you’re craving.
A BASE Jumper on Bridge Day
- Wear Comfortable Shoes – If there’s one thing you’ll do plenty of on Bridge Day, it’s walking. Heck, the Bridge itself is over 3,000 feet long, so just walking across it and back will be more than a mile. Really comfortable walking shoes will make a big difference in your day.
- Plan Your Parking – Where you will park is really dependent on how early you arrive. You can park along Rt. 19, but spots close to the Bridge fill up quickly. We suggest you take advantage of the shuttle parking lots. These are designated parking sites on both sides of the Bridge. For $2, you can park and catch a shuttle that will drop you off near the event entrance. Handicap parking is also located in designated areas on both sides of the Bridge.
The Incidentals
Now that you’ve got the basic necessities down, there are a few other things that can help you plan your day.
- Bridge Entrance – There are designated entrance points for the Bridge located on each side. Leave your large bags and backpacks at home, and keep in mind that small bags and strollers will be searched. Plan accordingly.
- Under the Bridge – There are a few different ways to get down to the river under the Bridge. Lot of people take advantage of the Into The Gorge Shuttles, but remember, this option requires reservations. Call the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce at 1-800-927-0263 for information and to purchase tickets.
- Tandem BASE Jump Wedding – Erika Terranova is the 2012 winner of the Tandem BASE jump contest, and before she straps herself to a professional BASE jumper for her leap, she will tie the knot with her skydiving fiancé Patrick. If you want to see this doubly special Bridge Day event, it will take place in the center of the Bridge in the morning.
