New River Gorge Area Summer Events

Warm summer weather means great days outdoors when the river water is warmer, the mountain greenery is lush and evenings are comfortable for lazing outdoors.

Find a festival! Arts and crafts, music and dancing, fireworks and fun are on tap throughout the summer as our delightful small towns put on their best show for residents and guests.

Challenge yourself during the “Captain Thurmond” New River Gorge Challenge when competitors vie for first place in a nontraditional race that includes mountain biking, kayaking and a cross-country run. Then stay for a second day for The Thurmond Triathlon, a beginner friendly triathlon that is fun for the whole family!
