SUMMARY:Witches and Warlocks SUP Paddle
DESCRIPTION:Gather with us for a Witches and Warlocks Stand Up Paddle on the New River on Sunday\, October 29th. We will be meeting at the upper Fayette Station Parking lot. Attendees need to sign a waiver in advance\, must know how to swim\, and wear PFD’s. This event is not designed for first time paddlers. Paddlers must be confident in maneuvering boards.\nWe will launch at the upper beach at Fayette Station wearing PFDs paddling approximately 500 yards up stream on the flat water back to the beach. This is a leisure paddle but keep in mind that the current of the river can be challenging for beginners.\nThis is a limited ticket event capped at a maximum of 70 participants to meet the requirements of our permit. If you reserve a spot and can’t attend\, please let us know so we can open the spots to give others a chance to join in the fun. This also allows us to have space for vehicle parking and allows for ease of launch and exit from the river. You must preregister to attend and fill out a waiver. We encourage participants to carpool or utilize the upper overflow parking area. We ask that participants pull into the upper beach parking lot to unload boards and then move vehicles to the upper overflow lot to allow easy access for more participants to get set up.\nIn the event that water levels are too high on the river we will make a decision before the event and move the event to Kanawha Falls\, if water levels are unsafe at the falls we will be forced to cancel. Please do not try to park on the Bridge or off of Fayette Station Rd. The road is narrow and will be impassable with cars parking off the side of the road.\nPaddlers:\nPlease pull into the upper beach parking area to unload boards and gear. After unloading\, please pull into the lower lot to allow more paddlers access for unloading.\nAll participants must register ahead and must fill out waivers. Please arrive by 8:50am to fill out waivers. PFDs are required. This event is for experienced paddle boarders due to the level of skill required to navigate this section or river and risks involved. The water will be really cold\, please come prepared and pack extra dry clothes. We look forward to seeing everyone Sunday. Boards can be rented in advance with Mountain Surf Paddle Sports.

This gnome will come with instructions to claim the grand prize of Gnomevember. \nHow to join in the fun? \n\nStop by the Fayetteville Visitor Center and grab a gnome scavenger hunt checklist. SUMMARY:Active Southern WV Ugly Sweater Fun Run/Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Ugly Sweater Fun Run/Walk is a family friendly way to get active enjoying the Winter Wonderland light display at Fayette County Park.\nThis is not a race! You can go at your own pace and make as many running or walking laps around the light display as you like (5 laps equals a 5K distance). This is stroller friendly and ages 10 and under get in free. No pets allowed\, except service animals.\nThis is a fundraiser for Active SWV and the Fayette County Park. The event is $10 per person (cash or check)\, but ages 10 and under are free. No reservations needed.\nWear your ugly sweaters and Deck your strollers (or sleighs)! Get in character and secret judges will be checking out all the outfits and strollers. Awards will be presented and the opportunity for photos.\nActive SWV will be hosting a winter coat\, hat\, and glove drive for local families in need in partnership with Warm Hands\, Warm Hearts in Oak Hill. A drop box will be provided at registration in the Dining Hall.\nThis is how the event will be set up:\n– Arrive at the park gate between 4:30pm-4:50pm and wait in your cars to enter the park. The park attendant will collect the $10 per person as you pass by the gate and pass out gift packages. Ages 10 and Under are free. The gate will be closed from 5pm-6pm.\n– Parking is available by the canteen and the pool area.\n– Check in at the Dining Hall and be sure to let us know if you are participating in the Ugly Sweater contest (or if you’re regular attire could be confused as an ugly sweater). Watch for cars still coming into the park.\n– The Fun Run/Walk is set to start at 5:00pm. The gate will be closed from 5pm-6pm for the safety of the runners and walkers.\n– Have fun! Enjoy the lights and costumes. Flashlights and headlamps are encouraged. This is a great event for strollers!\n– Return to the dining hall at 5:50 for the Ugly Sweater runway contest.\n– Do not move your cars until close to 6pm. If you finish early\, please wait until 6pm to move your car.\n– When the gate opens at 6pm\, the vehicles waiting to enter the light show will be let in first so there is room on the one lane road for cars to exit.
